The U.S. Forest Service had proposed to lease out over 3,000 acres of Wayne National Forest for oil and gas drilling, but they were forced to halt for further study thanks to Sierra Club and other organizations efforts.

In 2008 the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park was designated a RASMAR site of international significance (the only site in Ohio and 1 of 30 in the country) because of the unique ecology and research. However the wetlands are being threatened by a proposed natural gas pipeline that will undercut the research and endanger wildlife.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is announcing a schedule to develop
