Although the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture is widely known, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is still allowing the prevention of disease to be included in the definition as a therapeutic use of antibiotics.Ask them to take stronger action to control the widespread use of antibiotics in food animal production.

Protect our Water by Stopping Mosquito Spraying in Lake County, OH
Lake County General Health District sprays toxic chemicals for mosquito and West Nile Virus control throughout the community annually. However, there are only 2 human cases reported in the past 5 years. Meanwhile the expensive toxic chemicals are killing benefitial insects and fish. Urge your county officials to explore alternative ways like rain garden to control mosquitos and stop spraying hazardous chemicals into our environment.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us on a rainy, wet lobby day on Tuesday because it would not have been possible without all of you. While together we have made our voices heard about clean energy in Ohio, our work is far from being done. We have seen coal mine tragedies, unprecedented oil spills, all of which are reminders that our fossil fuel dependence is dirty, expensive, and even deadly. Read More

Pat McKenna, chair of the Sierra Club Northeast Ohio Group, presented testimony to the Ohio Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee on Senate Bill 165. This legislation updates Ohio’s urban drilling law by proposing a fee to fund oil and gas oversight, and by introducing an orphan well program that will help reduce abandoned wells. Ohio House Supports Energy Efficient Public Buildings

The Ohio House passed House Bill 7 on Wednesday, December 16 , which establishes energy efficiency standards for state funded building projects. HB 7 will benefit Ohio’s environment and save taxpayers dollars. Stay tuned for more information after the new year as we look to the Ohio Senate.
